When Holiday Inn where looking for commercial photographers in Edinburgh to photograph their newly refurbished Holiday Inn Express they wanted photographers who had experience of architecture and interiors, as well as lifestyle photography.
We’ve been photographing commercial interiors for a number of years. Hotel bedrooms present a particular challenge to photograph due to their layout and size, which makes it difficult to hide any lighting. We therefore carry a range of portable lighting and accessories which allow us to light the bedrooms by hiding the lighting, often by clamping them to cupboards and fittings which are out of view.
Lifestyle photography such as this one help showcase the Wi Fi facilities at the Edinburgh Holiday Inn Express
Other pieces of equipment which we always carry when photographing interiors are a full range of lenses which allow us either to get a view of the whole room or a small detail. This allows us to create a variety of images for the client rather than have everything from the one perspective.
For this close up of the bed we used some subtle lighting to create a cosy feel.
Wide photographs of interiors are always useful to give people an idea of what to expect when they arrive but lifestyle photography can also help give a sense of a location and add a bit of atmosphere. Again, our location lighting allows us to do this through the use of various attachments which allows us to control the lighting.
It’s always good to have wide shots showing the whole room but details such as this help create atmosphere, as well as highlighting the USB charging points.
