As commercial photographers in Edinburgh, we are called upon to photograph a wide variety of subjects from architectural and interior shots of premises to staff headshots and product and lifestyle shots for websites.
Very often, we are asked to combine all these elements in one shoot, especially for clients like Minto Dental in Edinburgh who were looking for commercial photographers to produce a series of images for their website.
We always carry portable lighting for interiors which can be carefully hidden.
So we knew when the dentists would be ready for their staff headshot, we consulted with the receptionist to identify times when they would be free.
Before the practice opened to the public, we started with some architectural and interior photography to get shots of the main reception areas before they were busy with people. Once this was done we could relax a bit and concentrate on other types of shots which didn’t rely on areas being free of people.
To give an impression of the practise we took a number of interior details.
When the dentists were free for their staff headshot, time was still limited before the next patient came in. So we could work very quickly, we used portable lighting and kept the set ups very simple.
There was also a requirement for some lifestyle photography to help give an impression of the location on the website. Fortunately, as these tended be close ups of details, it meant that these could be taken even when the practice was busy.
When we photograph working interiors like this we remove any distracting things from the room like bins or paperwork lying around.
Working this way allowed us to take a wide variety of shots in a very short space of time, much to the delight of the client.
The shoot was actually booked via the Commercial Photographers Network, as Minto Dental are part of BUPA Dental and there were numerous practises all over the UK which required photography. The network (which we are founder members of) has a lot of experience in co-ordinating multiple shoots all over the country. The dentists didn’t have a lot of time between patients so we had to keep the set up quite simple.
